to replace the offending Windows 98 machine with one running a more recent version of Windows. Depending on the hardware available, even a simple OS update might be possible. I'm sure this will fit in the regular office budget.

I saw it first was the first, but others in my office now experience it too. When doing 'Save As' from any office application, if I edit the existing file nave and browse to a particular mapped netork drive, I get an error message "The folder 'Z:\filename.doc' is not accessible. The file may be located in an unavailable location, protected with a password, or the file name contains a / or \." I upgraded from Office 2000 to 2003, no help. My machine is Windows 2000, but another with the same problem is Win XP. The mapped drive is on a win'98 machine. It only happens with that particular machine. It doesn't matter if the remote drive is mapped or not - it even happens to the floppy drive on that machine. Some PCs on our network never have the problem. Those that have the problem have it all the time. Found a work-around: from 'Save As' window, click on 'Favorites' then click on 'Back' arrow to return to the desired location, then click 'Save'. Works every time. Please help!
