Can't Run Scan Disk or Defrag

Jun 16, 2004 3:15PM PDT

I am soooo new this computing thing. When I try to run scan disk it says "Has tried to start scan disk so many times, blah blah blah. Now I can't run a defrag without first running a scan disk. Can anyone out there help me. This computer, I know, is so clogged up and I want to clean up this mess. HELP!!!! Thank you all so much.

You have to clean up your registry. This is difficult to do for a newby.

Certainly, your suggestion is a possibility...but I'd sure try some of other suggestions first. Most commonly, a registry cleaning is NOT necessary to allow Scandisk and Defrag to run correctly. Still, it's not a bad idea to clean the registry occasionally to get rid of the unnecessary entries that are there.

In addition, with some of the excellent registry cleaners that are currently available, with just a little help, most "newbies" should be able to get the job done. I agree that it's probably not a good tool for the completely uninitiated, but with a little work, most can do a fine job.

Hope this helps.

Not a good idea. I have a degree in computer science and hesitate on messing with the registry unless I absolutely have to. You shouldn't touch the registry unless you know exactly what you are doing. And then, only if you have first backed-up the registry before you start.
