Can't reformat laptop? Windows XP.

by Python49 / October 6, 2010 11:40 AM PDT

Hello all, I backed up all my important data to an external hard drive and simply wanted to reformat my computer to scratch to solve a few other problems it was having but every time I attempt to boot the computer up using the windows xp disk it loads the files from the cd and does the setup or whatever, and then right before it starts anything and moves onto the next part it gives me this error msg:
http://desmond.yfrog.com/Himg196/scaled.php?tn=0&server=196&filename=dscn0196if.jpg&xsize=640&ysize=640

This happens before it even begins to install anything and is just checking the hard drive. I then end up having to reset. I've tried different copies of windows XP to see if it was just the CD and none worked.

That looks like the old XP install to a SATA drive issue.

But your post didn't tell what laptop this was so I can't be sure.

Research IDE EMULATION on your laptop as well as the old XP SATA issue.

If you need to find answers quicker, just post the make, model numbers so you don't have to wait for folk to ask for that info.

May be crook memory
by duckster2 / October 29, 2010 7:24 PM PDT

If your memory is crook windows xp booting off CD cannot load into memory and may produce a similar screen of error messages that are hard to understand.
but it is hard to check. I get a similar message on my other computer that had Linux partitions as Linux has corrupted my windows partion.

One of the best French door fridges we've tested

A good-looking fridge with useful features like an auto-filling water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It was a near-flawless performer in our cooling tests.
