Can't record sound in Windows 7

Jul 10, 2010 6:26PM PDT

I used to record Internet radio shows by playing them in IE and by setting the sound recording mixer to "Stereo Mix" that would record the sound off the speakers in a small add-on program. I recently switched from XP to Windows 7 and now I can't figure out how to configure the sound mixer to record from the Wave Out or Stereo Out. What am I missing here?

I don't know why Microsoft tends to hide stuff from us?

Thanks for the heads up. To fix the issue, open up the Sound mixer, then switch to Recording tab and right-click inside the list of recording devices (in a free space). Then check "Show disabled devices" and go into the Properties for the Stereo Mix item, then in "Device usage" select "Use this device" and click OK. After that it will be available as it was in XP.
