Can't Receive My Mail Because of Norton Firewall

by Chuck100 / September 15, 2004 5:35 AM PDT

My Norton firewall won't let my Outlook Express account download my mail. Although I already know about this problem existing with firewalls, I've never been affected by it before. My service provider says the problem is my Norton firewall, well I already had that figured out. I've always used the Norton default settings and they worked perfectly, but now something has changed and I can't figure out what change has occured, to my knowledge I didn't change anything. What Norton firewall settings do you think I can get away with changing that are both functional and still safe. Are the firewalls provided by Windows XP as good and workable as the Norton firewalls; good enough for me to stop using the Norton firewall? I have Service Pack 2, would that be a good substitute for the Norton firewall? I hope so!

Ports 25 and 110 need to be allowed.

SP2 has the XP Firewall activated by default...

so if you have Norton Internet Security make sure you disable XP's Firewall.

Also make sure in configuring your Norton Firewall in the Programs tab check that OE is added to the list and set the Internet Access to Automatic.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
