Can't read those small CDs in my drive!

I have a Dell Studio 1745. Its CD/DVD drive is not a tray that slides out when i press a button. It's a slot, and when i feed a CD/DVD into it, the drive takes it automatically. I press a button on the keyboard to eject it.

I have one of those really small CDs with software on it that's required to populate a digital photo ornament. I feed the CD into the slot but the computer doesn't recognize it.

Is there any hope? Can i get this CD into the slot somehow?

I duplicate the CD or use an external drive with a tray.
