I was confused where you said you used Firefox to download Explorer, but I gather you mean Internet Explorer 8.
Do you not have Internet Explorer installed at all on this system?
If Internet explorer is not listed in your Start > All Programs > Accessories, then try this. Goto Start > Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs. In the new window look for Add/Remove Windows Components. Look in the list for Internet Explorer and select it.
Does that install Internet Explorer?

Hi, all:
I have a Dell desktop running XP. I had a system crash and a local tech outfit reinstalled Windows. I get updates, so I think the version is legit. The techies were terrible, though, and it's possible they screwed something up. I won't go back and will go elsewhere if I must seek professional assistance. Hope I don't have to. Here's my problem...
When I use Firefox to install Explorer, the program downloads, but when it opens, it freezes.
Ironically, if I go via Firefox to Explorer help, it tries to open up a window in Explorer...and freezes. I've tried downloading older versions (Explorer 7), same problem.
Also, for some reason, when the program downloads, it downloads to my external harddrive (G), rather than my C drive (how do I change that?). I've tried to open explorer from my G drive, but can find no "exe" file. Mysterious...
I'm happy using Firefox, but some other Microsoft apps seem to require Explorer (e.g. my file search function doesn't work properly; no matter what I search for, it finds no results). Thanks for any advice you can provide. Cheers!
