Question

Can't print to usb printers

Jul 31, 2013 4:52AM PDT

I have a Dell Dimension E520 with Windows XP sp3 and I can't print to either of my 2 usb printers. A Brother Laser and a HP Photosmart. I can print to a wireless HP printer. I did Windows update yesterday. Could one of them knocked out my usb ports? I tried rebooting.

These are plugged into the back. I guess I'll plug one into the front usb port and try that.

I looked and had those 2 printeres plugged into a usb hub plugged into the back of my desktop. Took hub off and plugged Brother directly into Dell and it worked. Something must be wrong with the hub?

No. I think something's wrong with Microsoft.

And the industry. Sorry but it's not you at fault here.

You're probably right.

When I first turned on my computer this morning it said Found new hardware and nothing new or extra was plugged in. Then I think it said unknown device or something. Probably couldn't recognize the hub. You know this hub has a power plug on the side (at least that's what I think it is). Don't think I ever had it plugged into the wall.

BTDT. Replaced too many ports and hubs over the years. They can get old and cranky but the story is light.
