Can't play streaming video/audio

Mar 1, 2005 9:06AM PST

I'm unable to play windows streaming video or media with either Windows Media Player 10 or Real Player. The audio file is *.asx format but I don't know about the video but in either case its some windows media format because I can play other formats such as those supported by QuickTime or Winamp.

The following error message shows up after few minutes:
C00D11B3: Encountered a network error

I've looked at he tools/options/network tab, checked all of the protocols listed and set all to autodetect from the old default settings. However, still no luck. It all works on my laptop so I don't know why is it happening with this computer.

Any suggestions?

A few ideas.

1. http://www.google.com/search?q=C00D11B3 finds that many are seeing this error. See how they tackle it.

2. Type WMP MINI FAQ into Google.com. Use this FAQ to tell WMP that's it's ONLINE.

3. I'm coming to the thought that rogue CODECs (that's defined as anything Microsoft doesn't install) may be the issue or it's SPYWARE related damage.

rogue codecs?

The idea of "rogue codecs" is just Microsoft propoganda...-_-

Here's a 50MB codec pack, it should cover just about everything.

Don't use Windows Media player. It's known to have issues with .mkv, .ogm and even some Xvid codecs. The newer versions of WMP are even worse then the old ones. Get BSPlayer, compatiable with everything.

Also, uninstall Quicktime and Real Player, get Quicktime and Real Alternatives, which allows their video formats to be played by most generic video players, including BS Player, as well as web browsers.

" just Microsoft propoganda " = True Lies.

While it upsets many, the brutal effect of WMP 10 has been that some owners have to eject what codecs Microsoft has decided to not honor.

Not for one second do I believe this issue was not intentional.
