can't play DVD's region error/but region correct

Mar 29, 2004 12:57AM PST

i have a sony vaio pcv-rx203/xp home - can't find answer to this any where.

all my dvd's which have previously played fine will no longer play. i get an error saying wrong region - but region is correct. they are region 2 films, drive is set to region 2, and they all used to play fine and i haven't changed anything. now they won't play with any software - just get wrong region message.

xp trouble shooter told me change region - but it's set correctly, please help. will reinstalling xp solve this?

I'd try this and note that.

This? uninstall and reinstall the DVD software player.

That? The DVD drive may fail and is programmed to do so after 4 or 5 region changes.

have never changed the region - the drive has 4 region changes left - but won't allow changes to be made. (never tried before this prob so don't know if it did before)

i have tried several software players (that all worked before) is it likely that i need to reinstall them all?

What's unclear in your last post is whether you actually have uninstalled and reinstalled a DVD player software. Best of luck,

Here's a couple of suggestions for you. First, one thing you may try is to replace the drive cable itself. Essentially, it may be a communications error rather than a software error. Second, find one software DVD player and stick with it. Intstalling multiple players will mess up some of the settings in your registry.
