Question

Can't ping/use specific Spotify with any device on router

Jun 10, 2014 7:32AM PDT

Greetings,

I am a Spotify Premium user and starting this morning, I am unable to connect to/ping/nor use the Spotify site/app. I have tried resetting my router and that has not helped. I know it's not an issue with my computer as I even reformatted (mainly for other reasons) my computer and not even that helped. I tried on several devices too. Please help!!

Answer
Too vague.

You've pretty much summed it up as "it doesn't work" but no details. For example I find the new routers to default to firewalling off the devices on your LAN.

Do you think this is a ploy to get you to pay techs to turn that off?

It's just not working

I can't ping the site and as a result I can't listen to any songs. It may be firewall but I'm not sure how to check. I tried looking and it seems like there's no way to turn it off.

Details are still slim.

I wonder if you looked up the IP address of the site then pinged that address. To save time, don't spare details. Share the ping you used. I can't guess what you are typing.

How do I look up IP?

How can I lookup the IP address to the site without people able to ping the host name?

Save time. Use a little research.

I went to google and asked that question. You know it's the router, we know the new penchant is for security over functionality.

change DNS service?

I'm in the US

I'm in the US. I know it's not blocked. It works on any wifi network accept for mine so I know it's an issue at the router.

So for 20 bucks or so, change that router.

This is a lot of posts and I don't see the router make, model, firmware version and what's different from the stock settings.

open your router's program

and change it's DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 which will give you the google DNS which won't block spotify.

FIXED

I didn't do anything and it randomly fixed itself.... huh.

When DNS updates... Well, it's as if it's magic.

And then you have ISPs that block, get complaints and unblock.

Perfect!

THIS solution fixed it for me. I have been trying to figure this out for months! Finally, I simply went into my router settings and changed the ISP DNS settings to the ones mentioned above and now every application including Spotify work flawlessly! Thanks again!
