Make a backup of your current files, then restore your last backup.
Can you do that? Can you open the restored files? Then continue from there (might need some rework if your latest actions aren't on that backup).

Just copy to a safe place using (My) Computer or Windows Explorer or your favorite file manager or evem your regular backup program you use for all your (other) documents and pictures and so on. In the last case, be sure you know how to restore.

Now you can try to delete the original files. If that succeeds you had sufficient access rights and they weren't read only. So it shouldn't succeed. But if it does, copy copy back again and try Simply Accounting again.

Then try to replace the originals (you still have the copy in My Docs!) with the same files (when they still worked OK) from your backup. If that's one week old, you loose at most one week of work (assuming they still work OK).

So that's the optimistic scenario. The pessimistic scenario is the files are corrupted and you don't have a backup. Then you should start all over in a new database. That's always the risk when not having a backup and something happens.
