Question

Can't open older AppleWorks documents

Sep 30, 2012 9:00AM PDT

I have some documents created on AppleWorks in 2004-05 that I cannot open. Keynote tries to open them and I get the message

"Import Error... AppleWorks document (gives name.cwk) is not a presentation."

What gives? These are genealogy records that I thought would be here forever and I have much time and energy invested. What can I do, if anything?

Thanks,

Old Granny Lola

I think I got it

I went to one of the threads you posted and found a neat way to fix it, I think... (don't remember which thread) Someone suggested that I highlight an AppleWorks document, go to the "File" menu and select "Get Info." Then about halfway down the window you will see "Open with," select that from the pull down menu and choose "Pages," then click on "Change all," and the next time you try to open an old AW doc, it will open with Pages. So far, it seems to be working. At any rate, if I run into one I can't open, I can always do this and have it work..... thanks, as always, you guys are terrific.
