Can't Open Files..................

Feb 3, 2004 5:03AM PST

I the last couple of days I all of a sudden can't get files to open. Like my computer, documents, ect. Also IE won't load, only Slimbrowser is working. I can open some programs, but not files.

I've run Trend's housecall as well as my virus program,eTrust EZ Antivirus. But I can't seem to get the Desk Shield activated.

It seems to me that this must be a virus or worm of some sort. Has anyone heard of this??

Just a "thought" - did you clean your Temp.Internet Files??

I have cleaned, scrubbed, deleted, ect everything I know to do.

I ran the parasite suite last night. I ran window washer, and uninstalled many things. Also ran regedit.

Short of reformatting, which I dread, I don't know what else to try. I have tried to start backing up the most important programs, but as I said I can't get into the program files. And it would be horrible for me to lose the info I have in emails. I never have figured out how to back OE folders up.

Thank you for your quick reply. Happy

Had run CWShredder two nights ago. Just updated it and ran it again. Also ran regvac again. It shows clean.

Now going thru ad-aware again with more intense settings.

Thanks for the link for OE, I'll check it out while I wait.

No error messages. When I click on my computer in the start menu, for instance, I get the hourglass then I lose all the icons and the task bar, then the hourglass quits. It takes a minute or more for the task bar to come back, along with the icons. And the file hasn't opened.

So far there are 4 new items found in the deep search with Ad-aware. And I am running the Panda scan.

Also Internet Explorer and a few programs won't open.

I have spybot and am running it again now. Never could get Ad aware to finish running. I have had this error message with spybot since I first got it.

C:\Program Files\Spy_Search+Destroy\Includes\hijackers.sbi
See Includes errors log

I have never been able to find that log. Would anyone know anything about that??

I'll have to get back to you on that file question, lol, if I can ever look in my files again. ;P

I'll check into the cloak one. Everything is running super slow and if I try to toggle windows and things, it all freezes up and quits responding.

No rebooting doesn't change a thing. And it is spyware I'm pretty sure. Spybot got all the way to the end of the scan and closed.

Trying the cloaking device now.

Well I managed to get to system restore when I unplugged the net and opened my computer thru Slim Browser. So I now have the time and abilities to get everything I want to disc.

Thanks for your help, Marianne. I found many programs thru all this that I will be using.

Just a note on the panda scan....
I used their test pages to check my anti virus protections. My program (My eTrust) caught everthing immediately. However the Panda scan didn't when I d/c'd and did their scan again. Interesting........

does this mean your AV is working again??
Did you find "some" spyware which was causing your troubles??

Indeed ........ interesting........ with your Panda scan !
