can`t open e-mail file attachments

i get a message when i try to open an e-mail w/ a file attachment saying:this type of attachment is not yet supported. i`m running win 98. can anyone help? thanks

That happened to me recently. Seems that when you apply patches to Internet Explorer it turns the security level up to high without your knowledge. You have to go to Tools/Internet Options/Security and set it to medium. Be sure you click on Apply or whatever because if you aren't careful your changes won't stick. good luck.

It would clearly help if:
- you mentioned the email client you use (like Outlook Express, Outlook, Eudora, Pegasus, Netscape and others)
- you mentioned the full filename of the file attachement (something like readme.txt; especially the part after the . is interesting for determining the type)
- you give the full literal text of the error message
- you explain if you get the message on (a) opening the e-mail (as said in the text or (b) opening the attachment (as said in the message header)

With this info added, help may be nearby.
