Can't open .dbx files from backup; Help

May 30, 2005 3:43PM PDT

Hi all,
Just bought myself a brand new PC, MCE 2005. To make sure I would not loose any documents, it was suggested to me to remove the 30 gig hard disk from my old PC that was running on Windows 98SE and install it on the new PC as a ?slave?. Naturally, Win 98Se was de-activated on the slave drive.

When I began to transfer my things, every thing was there; documents, photos, address book, etc... but when I tried to open my e-mail from Outlook Express, big surprise: Could not open any .dbx files from my old drive. I'm still using OE, same version. Any suggestions (as simple as possible) would be greatly appreciated on how to retreive these important e-mail. Thanks all,

Christian Allard

Can't Open dbx

You cannot open the dbx. In outlook express, after you make you email account and enter the information, go to FILE -> Import
and follow the steps. Select Main Identity when you get to it, but do not use the default location, point it to the outlook express folder that holds all the dbx files in it. The next step will ask if you want to inport all folders or only a selected folder.
You will retrieve all the emails this way.

When changing from the default location, point it to the folder on your old hard drive with the dbx folders in it, the old Outlook Express folder.
