Can;t open COM1

I'm not sure this is the right forum but here's my question. I have an inexpensive PDA that I sync to my computer using a program and cable that came with the PDA. It used to work but now when I try to sync I get the "Cant open COM1" message.

I've checked the BIOS and the COM1 port is enabled. When I look at the hardware tab of system properties all seems fine. Recently I installed a program to sync to my cell phone but even removing that program did not remove the above message. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Can you use USB?

Are you using a serial cable to connect your PDA?

I have seen this issue before as well. I used an USB cable to get around the issue.

If you are stuck using a serial cable you might have to adjust the data rates and settings.
