Not sure but can't open any attachments at all.

How can I tell what the file extension is?

File extensions are
Jul 23, 2007 12:26PM PDT

the last digits after the dot.

Examples are

.eml
.wmp
.jpg
.pps

etc

Some extensions require a program to open them. We can usually figure out how by the person giving us the file extension.

Alternate Method

You could try to right-click on the attachment, choose "save as" and save it somewhere such as your desktop. You should then be able to open it from there.

Of course, if you're not absolutely sure about who sent the attachment, then you should perform a virus scan on it first.

Use a different attachment/client

Hi,

If the attached file is an email message file, then yes, it will open another email windows containing the contents of the email file. does this happen with every type of attachment? Assuming you have MS Word, try sending yourself a Word Document and see if you can open it.

If everything fails, use a different email client (Mozilla Thunderbird, etc.)
