Question

Can't make a choice

Mar 20, 2013 11:24PM PDT

Hi everyone,

Im already searching for days now and read a lot of reviews about tablets. But the more i read the more unclear it gets for me. Im a student and looking for a tablet which includes these properties:

1. The most important for me is that what you can do with the tablet has no restrictions. I don't want any rules with what i can do and can't do on it. I want to put everything on it i want. Apple for example wouldnt be a great choice for me if i read all the forums.

2. Reading on the tablet comes on 2. Its important that i can read for a long time on it without my eyes getting too tired.

3. A keyboard comes on 3. Sometimes im going to use it for reports and stuff for school and i dont want to do this with touch screen.

4. On 4 comes music. I believe tablets are not made for it but if one has better quality i would prefer that.

I already watched these tablets:
- Microsoft Surface RT
- iPad 4
- Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
- ASUS Vivo Tab RT
- Google Nexus 10 (Maar deze is geloof ik niet verkrijgbaar?)
- Dell xps 10

. Maybe one of above is good for me? I just dont know it anymore. Other choices and tips are welcome aswell!

Dan

Oops! i dont see an edit button.. but the text after - Google Nexus 10 (Maar deze is geloof ik niet verkrijgbaar?) is in dutch... It means I believe this one is not available in the Netherlands.

That's impossible.

- On an iPad you can install iPad apps.
- On a Windows RT tablet you can install Windows 8 apps
- On an Android app you can install Android apps.
- On a Blackberry tablet you can install Blackberry apps.

On none of these tablets you can install iTunes, for example. Or Fritz (a chess program). Or Adobe Acrobat. Or Sim City. In fact, on none of them you can install any Windows program, any Mac program, any Linux program..

Maybe a laptop would be a better choice for you.

That Windows 8 RT is pickier than that.

So far it will only install apps from the Microsoft Windows 8 RT store.

Not one person I know has bought a Windows 8 RT machine.

What about ebooks,movies and torrents.

I know apps and stuff are only available in the store from that operating system. But I actually meant things like books I have on my current laptop for school and my selfmade snowboard movies for example. Is it possible to transfer these to the device without problems. And what about torrent downloads on the device. I know many of you guys probably dont like me using it, but is it possible?

Thanks already!

Of course there are problems.

Files are transferred just fine. But since this is a tightly controlled platform, you must investigate if there are readers and players for the files your copy over.

Given the premium price you are paying, why are you so interested in a device that delivers less for more bucks?

Not interested in one specific device

No its not that im only interested in the windows RT devices. I just needed to know if their is any operating system that is better for downloading and also for transferring from laptop to the device.

After that these are my main concerns:

[quote]2. Reading on the tablet comes on 2. Its important that i can read for a long time on it without my eyes getting too tired.

3. A keyboard comes on 3. Sometimes im going to use it for reports and stuff for school and i dont want to do this with touch screen.

Sure. That's the usual Windows tablet.

Not the RT. This way you get it all.

Item 2 is something you talk to your eye doctor about getting a prescription for such use. I know I had to do this. The prescription was not for reading but for computer work. It is different and your item 2 tells me you need to see your eye doctor.

3. Sounds like you want a laptop.

4. Sounds like you want headphones.
Bob

PS. The office is porting apps to Android so I see a lot of models. None would satisfy you from what I read above. In other words you want a PC.
