Please try the steps below to update your version of the Windows script engine and Java. Both may be contributing to the issues on your computer:
First, to install the Script Engine, click on the link below, download the file to your desktop, then double click on it to install the script engine.:
Windows Script Engine Version 5.7 For Windows 2000
Next, Sun Java
Click on the link to Sun's Java below, then scroll down and click on the ''Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11'' download button. Follow the prompts, select the Windows platform and the "Language", accept the license agreement, then download the full ''Windows OFFLINE Installation'' file to your desktop,(about 15 MB), scan it with your antivirus (just to be sure it's clean). Once that's done, if you've already got a Sun Java version on the computer, open the Control Panel, double click on the ''Add/Remove Programs'' section, then uninstall all previous versions of the J2SE Java listed there. Once that's done, then install Java JRE 6u11 from the downloaded installer.
Once Java is installed, if you're using IE6, then click on "Tools' in the upper left, select "Internet Options" , then the "Security" tab, then highlight the "Internet" icon (the world globe), click on the "Custom Settings" button and make sure the security level is set to "Medium".
And if that doesn't help, then please try a different browser such as the free Firefox from the link below.. If Firefox works find and Interne Explorer doesn't, then you may need to "repair" Internet Explorer.
Hope this helps.
1) I have trouble logging in from my laptop (Dell,win2000). When I move my cursor (mouse) to the "login" words at the upper right hand corner, it switched from an "arrow" to a vertical bar (as if I'm about to enter text). On the computer from the library, I see the "arrow" become a hand with index finger pointing up instead. Any idea why? I can log in to other web pages without a problem.
2) Can I download software without logging in, since I have trouble doing so. I tried to download a software and when I click "download" a dialog screen comes up and it has this long-filename (nonsense really. a bunch of numbers and alphas string together...about 25 characters long ... if not longer.) And the filetype was just a htm file...not even the software itself. Why does it do that?
Famous last words.. "I can download from other sites fine"...really.
Thanks a bunch.
