Can't log onto network

by richie72846 / October 26, 2006 4:27 AM PDT

This is driving me crazy. I have set this up before and had it working, what am I doing wrong?

2 desktop computers upstairs (win98se) and (winxp home) connected via cable to wireless router, they can see and share files and printer with each other, no problem.

1 laptop (winme) downstairs with wireless network card connected to router, logs onto internet no problem.

Al I want to do is print from my winme laptop to the canon printer on the winxp computer. Problem is when I click on entire network I get a msg. >>unable to browse the network, windows is unable to gain acces to the network<<.

I'll try to answer some of your obvious questions now.

---yes tcp/ip and netbeui are installed on both computers
---yes printer on xp machine is setup for sharing
---yes I can ping the xp machine from the winme machine
---yes I have tried to map network drive, no luck
--- yes I have read most of the pertinent MS KB articles
--- zone alarm has been turned off

Any help greatly appreciated.

P.S. I can't remember what goes in the Host Name under DNS configuration, is it the computer name or the workgroup name?

Sally

The Samsung RF23M8090SG

One of the best French door fridges we've tested

A good-looking fridge with useful features like an auto-filling water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It was a near-flawless performer in our cooling tests.
