Ask your friend---

..for the password, or have him remove it. OR am I missing something ? BTW, is that the Windows log-on password, or the BIOS (setup)/"Power on" password ?

your friend also did not provide you the discs which came with the lap top ? The BIOS password is different from the Windows log-in password. The former can be "bypassed" by removing the BIOS battery, wait for, say 30 minutes, and reinserted. BIOS settings revert to the default.

If you still want to have that laptop, one thing you can do is to remove the HD (it slides out) and replace it with a new or compatible one(not too expensive). Reinstall the OS (not necessarily XP). Consider the costs...

One of the best French door fridges we've tested

A good-looking fridge with useful features like an auto-filling water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It was a near-flawless performer in our cooling tests.
