Question

Can't install the HTC driver with IE9

Mar 15, 2013 5:51AM PDT

I hv a DELL Inspiron 1545, W7, Norton 360. I can download the HTC Synch program, but the driver download "fails". HTC tells me I hv to to use IE (tried Firefox and Chrome, neither works with HTC). Worked with Dell, HTC and AT&T to no avail. My 'smart' phone isn't as smart as it should be since I can't synch w/o that driver. Any pointers would be appreciated

Can you tell the exact download location, so that somebody else can try? Or try yourself at some other PC/laptop (friend, family, work, whatever). If it fails there also, it's an error on the site, that their webmaster needs to address.

But with the little you tell nobody can check it.

HTC Driver
Mar 15, 2013 8:26AM PDT

Yes, I tried it on my (old) PC and it worked, but it's running XP. Therefore I assumed it was either a W7 or IE9 issue. Hv downloaded other programs in the past and had no issue. What type of info would be helpful? I've spent hours with HTC and AT&T to get this resolved but no luck. Is there anything I can check on my laptop? When it tells me that the "driver installation appears to have failed" I get no error code or any other detail.
Bless your heart for trying . . .

Always (and I mean ALWAYS) make a difference between downloading (copying the file from the Internet to your hard disk) and running the downloaded program, which in this case is installing the driver.

In your first post you said downloading failed. In you last post you talk about 'installation failed'. With such a confusing and inexact description of what's wrong you can't expect any effective help on your first post. And, sorry, "appears to have failed" without error code or detail doesn't tell much either. Isn't there a log file somewhere that tells more about the error? HTC should know, because they wrote the installer.

HTC Driver issue
Mar 16, 2013 10:07AM PDT

Yes, it's an installation issue (not a download problem) - my bad.
Spent another hour with HTC to no avail: Their installer does not have a log. The exact message during the HTC Synch installation reads: "The installation of the BMP USB Driver 1.0.5375 (64 bit) appears to have failed. Do you want to continue? Yes/No"
Clicking 'yes' completes the installation (albeit w/o the driver), clicking 'no' aborts the whole installation.
Tried to install in 'Safe Mode' with the same result. I give up.
Guess I was hoping that somebody had experienced either the same or a similar problem with a driver installation and could share some pointers. Sorry for wasting your time . . .
