What the lesson here is that when you use the restore CDs, you may get to install new drivers and more. BUT your issue is similar to what happens when you plug in some USB device before its called for. http://www.usbman.com notes that most of the time, unplugging the device, a boot to safe mode and removing the errant device, a boot, then installing the driver and finally plugging in the cable cures it.
Bob
I had to use the restore only option of the restore cd's for my hp computer, and now my printer (hp deskjet 648C) doesn't work.
I tried shutting down the computer, unplugging, replugging the USB cable, and starting up again, and the computer recognized it, but it couldn't find a driver for the printer. I don't have a cd for that, so, I went to the hp website, downloaded one there, and tried to install, but then it wanted me to plug in the USB cable when it was already plugged in!!!!!
I went to add new hardware, and it said the printer was installed but needed a driver. Now that I had downloaded from the hp website, i clicked search for driver, and it STILL couldn't find it!!!! AHHHHH!!!!!
WHAT DO I DO NOW?!?!?!?!?!
