Can't install preloaded Ms software

Hp dv9810 notebook

When I try to load MSworks9.0 for the first time get Error 1402. Did the google research NADA!
Call Hp support since I made the recovery DVD's and removed the recovery partition their response (big surprise here!!) "your only option is to wipe the HDD and restore to factory specs".
Any thoughts why this would be corrupt when they load 1000's of systems with the same master. BTW they said this is not an issue with others.

For preloaded software, yes, a big screw up.

Sorry but such preloaded software may not offer a repair or a reinstall after you remove it. Go figure why they didn't tell you this.

If you are like me, Open Office from http://www.openoffice.org will do fine.
