Resolved Question

Can't install flash player

Aug 31, 2011 2:46AM PDT

My DH is having problems with installing flash. Several sites come up and ask to install an active x add-on. You click ok. You go to another site and it asks to install an active x add-on. You click ok - you get the picture.

I uninstalled Flash and reinstalled it from Adobe's site. I restarted the computer to be sure. Something came up to say it didn't install correctly and go to their [forgot the name for it, but their user forum]. So, I uninstalled again. This time I downloaded from download.com. Same thing, again.

On the add/remove program page, Adobe Active X and Adobe Flash are listed, but there is no corresponding amount of disk space listed.

It's a Dell computer with XP, sp3.

Thanks,

bkay

Try this

They have an uninstall program that fixed a problem I had.

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

It states that it is for 10.2 but I think they just never updated the page. It worked fine on my 10.3 version.

Then go to this page. It is their Installation Problems page.

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html

If you scroll down to the paragraph titled Advanced Troubleshooting you can find direct link to download the offline installer. Do not use the links to get to Advance Troubleshooting because they have 2 paragraphs titled the same and the one you want is the first one. Download that and try the install and see if that helps.

It didn't work

I did what you suggested. It didn't change anything. When I uninstalled, it did not still show in the add/remove program page afterwards. I reinstalled it offline. I went to the Cadillac page, it asked to install Active X. I said yes. I went to the Lexus page and it asked again. Just to double check, I went to the Cadillac page on my computer and it didn't ask. The security level is set the same on both computers. We both have AVG.

Thanks for your help. I appreciate your interest.

Thanks TWB

I'm not sure what I did. I reset the security page on the tools menu to default. I uninstalled something I never heard of. I looked it up. It was some kind of filesharing software. Which ever thing worked, worked.

Thank you so much. The adobe troubleshooting page said to set your security page to medium. It wouldn't seem to work, so I just set it to default. Whatever it was, it worked.

Thanks again.
