Can't get wireless card to install win2k

Sep 30, 2004 4:22AM PDT

I have a Toshiba A110-127 machine running Windows 2000 Professional with SP-4 installed. Machine was originally running XP but so-called geeks advised switching to 2000 because of problem installing wireless card.
At installation, I get the following message "Thi INF or the device information set or element does not match the specified install class". I downloaded and installed the microsoft file "KB822831-x86" but that did not correct the problem. Also, the laptop is not seeing the wireless card in the PMCIA slot. I suspect that something did not get loaded correctly when updating the system but have no idea what.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Local geeks I know can't figure out the problem. I had this problem trying to install a D_Link X-treme G card. Purchased a US Robotics 802.11g wireless Turbo PC card and still have the same problem.

I have read a couple of other places that the MS fix doesn't work. Has anyone actually fixed this problem. And what is it Really, anyway... Regards Eric
