Can't get sound from Onboard audio or Audigy Card

Sep 20, 2004 9:49AM PDT

I am unable to get sound card, Audigy EAX Advanced HD,to work. Audigy control says that I do not have card installed correctly; I have removed and re-installed and still cannot get card to work. I have had in original box for a couple of years and have finally installed in system.

I disabled onboard audio but prior to that I did not have any sound either, except for a beep with IM chat.

What can I do to re-configure or check for error? The following is my system:

My first thought as to why the onboard sound will not work is that the mainboard/bios/sound drivers are not installed or up to date. Is this the case?

I tried a Windows update and 2 hardware updates will not install. At device manager, there is a yellow highlight for multimedia audio controller, PCI input device and raid controller. In trying to reinstall motherboard drivers, I am getting a Win XP compatibility message.

There your clue.

Windows Update Drivers are known to keep hardware from working proper.

Today's lesson is "Don't use Windows Update Drivers".

All started after Win XP SP 2

My Audigy works just fine with XP SP2.

It's not a known problem. Microsoft supplied drivers are however a known system breaker.
