Question

Can't get Samsung TV audio to play through receiver.

Mar 12, 2015 1:42PM PDT

have a new Samsung 75" 6350. My reciever is a denon avr-1912.

I have all my cable box and playstation going into the reciever. And one hdmi from receiver to the TV.

Both reciever and the TV support ARC. I have it connected to the arc imports. I want to use hdmi and not have to add additional optical cable.

The audio works for the things I have plugged into the receiver, except for audio coming from the TV (smart apps.) I have the Samsung audio set to "audio out".
What else do I need to do to get this working? Thanks.

(NT) Did you try adding the optical back link?

To add to what Bob asked

It's unfortunately not common knowledge yet that ARC is practically am incomplete standard in the sense that often it does not achieve what is promised. Adding a digital optical is usually necessary to output audio from the built in HDTV apps, or content via connected USB flash or hard drives. <pointing at the box of Amazon Basics digital optical cables in the corner....> YMMV, since I have seen systems where ARC actually worked.

Is there a "ARC" setting on the TV? I think someone have mention that on some other post.

Have had similar issues as yourself. Samsung TV with Pioneer AVR.

You may wish to download latest TV firmware and install.

Have a decent HDMI cable that is matched to your use.

Set Samsung AnyNet+ (HMDI CEC) to Receiver

Make sure HDMI setting on your Denon are correct (pass thru, input / outputs, etc). I messed this up somewhat. It took some trial and error to understand what the Pioneer user manual HDMI setting actually meant and how the receiver behaved.

Disconnect any other components on HDMI (like AWS Fire, Apple TV, Roku, Blu Ray, etc.) to limit HDMI traffic.

Set AVR to TV input. GO to Smart Hub and run a music app. IT ought to play thru AVR.

It is a touchy set up and can hang. It is sensitive to what component boots first. It took a while for HDMI ARC to stabilize. The smart TV will switch to TV speaker if it does not sense the AVR. Weird.

Samsung tech support helped make sure I got the TV set up correctly for this.

Switching from one HDMI source to another quickly can hang the ARC.
