Can't get PCMAG.COM password

Mar 21, 2004 5:53PM PST

For some reason I can't get a password from pcmag.com, though I have no trouble with any of the other ZDNET forums. Something in my computer is blocking it from coming in. I've tried everything I can think of including lowering the privacy level and instructing the browser to specifically allow pcmag.com into my system. I'm running Windows XP and using Internet Explorer ver 6 as a browser. This problem has been going on for a year now and, after uncountable attempts, I still can't get a password through.

1. I can't get a password from pcmag.com

What does password have to do with anything or are you saying that entering pcmag.com in the Address bar does not progress to that site?

I can get into the pcmag.com website with no trouble, but I can't get into any of the forums or into my account (in order to change my password) without first having a password the pcmag.com recognizes. It's like a catch 22. I keep asking them to send me a password and it never arrives. I had a message traced through a friend's computer and that was how I learned the passwords were being blocked somewhere in my machine, but I can't locate the block. I even posted pcmag.com as a trusted site in my browser, but that didn't help. Also, without the password I can't get anyone at pcmag to hear me. Have you any suggestions?

The experience I've had with registration sites such as this forum is -- and I've never been a member of PCMag:

a. When you become a member of a site requiring registration you're give a password for a particular username. Upon subsequent site access, you must enter the necessary information when prompted by the site, or the site issues and uses a Cookie which is automatically read for identification.

b. If a member forgets a password, usually the site will e-mail their member the information upon request so they can comply with a. above.

c. If a site relied on automatic Cookie reading for access initially and the member wiped the Cookie from their computer, they will usually have to enter their identification before access is allowed and the Cookies is rewritten.

You might try turning off your spam blocker.

Then the next time you get email from PCMAG don't tell your ISP it's spam.
