General discussion

Can't get next page on long threads

May 1, 2005 1:39AM PDT

Example:

In the Desktop forum:
Subject: "turning off PC" = Good/Bad

http://reviews.cnet.com/5204-7586-0.html?forumID=68&start=0

Some poor soul made a 521st post at 05/01/2005 6:35AM
(It's been quite a long time since anyone made a post to that thread Wink)

There is a previous page and next message, but no next PAGE so it requires us to click on 520 messages to get to #521.

You have to click on

"Next Unread" and it will take you there but you will have no idea where you are and, once you've read it, you cannot go back and find it easily. Yep, same experience here.

Click on "Next Unread" ?

But how do I get to the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th page to click on the yellow "Unread" button. I still haven't figured out how to get to the page that has the 521st post.

Also.......

All the post buttons on the 1st page of my Firefox are gray indicating they have been read, so no yellow unread button on 1st page. Checking IE, which I haven't used in a long time, all the 1st page posts buttons are yellow (unread), clicking on any of the yellow buttons still does not give a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, page.

Don't need the yellow button

If there is a message in the thread you have not read, go to the upper right in the box and look for the option "next unread message". Click that and you are taken to....the next unread message. It does not matter how many pages away you are. You are taken to that page. The problem is that once you have read all of them you are stuck with page 1 forever.

Phew!

Well what I did Steven is make a new post to that thread just now hoping I could catch the last page as apparently all the posts are being shown as "read" on my computer, but I feel confident that I have never read more than 30 of those post, if that many. So, you are correct the "next unread message" will not show up on the top right if all messages have been read. Well, my post did make the "next unread message" notice appear and clicking on that did get me the last 'page' of that thread my post being 522. Scrolling through that last 'page' happened to get the post before mine that I was looking for 05/01/2005 6:35AM and marked 327 of 522. It was marked read, about the middle of the page, but a BIG "New" in red was the only one marked on the page and easy to find.

the workaround is....................
May 1, 2005 5:17AM PDT
click "next message" 270 times

but made a post to the thread to get the last page and stumbled across the post I was trying to find (only one that had a red 'New')that happened to be a reply to a post that was on the last page.
