The PC has a shared folder with the Mac user having permission to access it.
The Mac has an account that the PC user can log into.
You have a network switch, or hub, that both these machines are plugged into.
You are not using a piece of non-crossover ethernet cable.

I'm going nuts with this. I'm trying to get my Mac (os 10.5.7) and pc (IBM Thinkcentre) to see each other to share files (I'm just trying to learn this stuff). The book I have -- missing manual by david pogue) tells me it's a snap, but it didn't work. I try to connect via SMB but connection times out and a message says something like part of the data couldn't be read with an error code of 36. Can anyone help me out?
