Bit more input would help.

What would you need to know?
I have Windows XP and the Last thing I downloaded were some Skins for my game. I ran a few anti virus scans and adaware scans, didn't fix the problem. I also Killed explorer and reloaded it, still the problem is unfixed. Any help?

Killed Explorer??
Jul 28, 2004 1:33AM PDT
Do you mean Internet Explorer? Or Windows Explorer?

Windows Explorer is the "shell" that opens "My Computer" and if you deleted it, Windows wouldn't run correctly at all.

Does "My Computer" open blank or not at all? If it opens blank, does this help:
To resolve this issue, use Registry Editor to delete the ExplorerBar value in the following registry key, and then restart your computer:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

Are you able to run your normal programs?

When you ran the Ad-Aware and online antivirus scans, what did you find?

Just some suggestions here:

Shut down unnecessary start up programs, delete all junk files (Temporary Internet Files and .tmp files) from the computer, then run Error Checking/Chkdsk and Defrag.

Hope this helps.

I'm sorry I killed windows explorer and then reloaded it. When I try to get into My Computer it doesn't open at all. When I ran my adaware scan all I got were the usual tracking cookies, and my Norton anti virus picked up nothing. I'm able to run my normal programs (Unless I have failed to find one that doesn't work).

I have no answer. Any time that I see the control panel or my computer inaccessable it is because of spy-ware or viruses. Performing a downloading then having configuration issuses indicates virus or spy-ware. As you have scanned your system for both, hopefully with up-dated definations and applications mentioned in this forum, this is not the case.

Try this ->
right click Task Bar ->
left click Properties->
Open tab "Start Menu"
Fill radio button for "Start Menu" click "Customize"
Open "Advance" Tab
Look for "My Computer" and fill radio button for action that you want.

...exactly what you've done.

Did you clean out all the files I listed?

How To Clean Unwanted Files From The Hard Drive

Did you run Error Checking/Chksk and Defrag?

(Can you RIGHT click on the Start button, choose "Explore".) If you still can't open "My Computer", then you'll need to run "Chkdsk" from a command prompt. If Explorer opens, then can you double click on "My Computer" at the top of the window? If so, RIGHT click on the C drive, choose "Properties", then "Tools" tab. In the 'Error Checking" area, click on the "Check Now" button, then place a dot/tick in both selection boxes, and click on Start" button. Restart the computer and Error Checking will take place and when it's finished, the computer will boot into "normal" Windows.

Running Defrag can be done by clicking on Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-Disk Defrag.
