Can't get all the speakers to work on my computer

Jul 19, 2010 4:38AM PDT

I have a GATEWAY desktop computer and the speakers have been working fine up until now. Now the right speaker and the woofer are working, but not the left speaker. I don't have the manual for these Koss speakers. I bought them about 3 years ago from The Source because they are sort of futuristic looking. The two little speakers are round and the woofer is oval shaped on legs. On the CPU, there are three coloured holes, pink, blue and green. I have one cable put into the green hole. Is this correct? I believe all of the other end of the cables are in the volume control correctly. I downloaded the latest AC/97 Realtek update from CNET and it didn't make any difference. I have checked the sound control and effect and everything seems to be fine. Any thoughts on why this right speaker doesn't work. I appreciate any help you can give me and thank you.

1. Try a headphone to the green jack or other speakers. Any change?
2. Now here's a problem. NO STANDARDS in controls but some have a left right balance slider. Since there is no standards I fish around for that and move it to the center position.

I put some headphone into the green opening on the back as you suggested and I can hear the music just fine. All the volume controls are in the correct spot. So what is wrong? Is this speaker just not working, like broken? Thanks for your answer?

That's good to hear.

It means something is broken with the speakers. Ohm meters, solder irons and such are useful but if you used those you would be repairing the system now.

Looks like it's time to shop for a new speaker set.
