These are part of Microsofts networking, but apparently (and strange enough) not needed for using cable Internet. Two ways to go:
1. Config Panel/Network, and install some protocol or service you don't need.
2. Regedit, find where the vxd's are loaded (search for name of vxd), and delete 'line'. It might very well be that this doesn't work for the dll. As long you don't have to press a key after message, it's a minor annoyance. Carefully note what you delete, so you can add it again if it turns out fatal (luckily, Win 98 has a restore feature for the registry back to 5 days).

After installing a network card (Road Runner for a cable online connection) and installing the setup disk, I keep being told at boot that vxd files (dfs, vnetsup & vredir) are referred to in the registry or sys.ini, but these files cannot be found - press any key, etc. Then, before Win98 loads, I get the message that msnp32.dll in the dynamic link library cannot be loaded. It goes online and works fine, but these are annoying. I tried, as MS suggested, deleting and reinsalling client. I even removed the card and did a USB hookup, but these messages persist. Any ideas?
