Can't find KB2412171 to uninstall, yet I have symtoms

Dec 24, 2010 11:49PM PST

I can't run archiving anymore, all options missing, outlook running like crap, and have found the "fix" with a search but I have looked and looked, sorted by name, sorted by date, sorted by program, and there is NO KB2412171 listed among my windows updates (Vista home premium, and yes I clicked "view installed updates"). Any ideas?

So, looking for the culprit...

I've completely uninstalled everything in that date range and I still have no archiving features anywhere in my Outlook 2007. I'm so bummed. Sad

I'm in same boat too! I can't find the fix to uninstall. I've lost my archive options AND gmail connectivity - the both seem to be related according to the 5 HOURS or searching I have put in so far!
F*&king MS get it fixed please.

First delete kb 2509470, then kb 2412171 will appear in the list of updates. Delete it and restart your computer.

I wonder...
Dec 25, 2010 8:24PM PST

They said that MS had a "fix" up for a few hours, then took it down. I wonder if somehow I downloaded that "fix" that wasn't a fix at all and thus why I can't do the uninstall.

Anyway, I also tried system restore but my machine doesn't list any restore points older than 5 days (and I need to go back to the 14th). Now, why are those older restore dates missing?

Looks like I'm stuck with a reinstall/repair but I'm not holding my breath...

I did a reinstall/repair

And it did not fix the issues. I still have the pausing/freezing when switching folders, and no archive options. This sucks.

Still no luck either

I've done just about everything I could find in the past week and NOTHING has worked. I've posted to MS's Office and Outlook forums but no one from MS is really giving a rip about this.
I will keep looking, but this really sucks.

If repair doesn't help, do a complete uninstall and reinstall. Should get rid of all Windows updates regarding Outlook. Than be careful what updates you install.

re-install

Re installing is the LAST thing I want to do. Like I said I could go back to an image from last month but I don't really want to do that unless I absolutely have to. I am sure many of my managed systems and clients have the same issue but just don't know it yet. Really sucks that MS is not working on this.

Why not uninstall and reinstall OFFICE?

I wonder if that will do the job.

Unnstall and reinstall Outlook ..

can be done from the Office CD. It's not more difficult than repairing it from the CD (although it takes twice as long) and you won't lose your data and settings.

No change...

No fixes from MS, I still can't archive. MS silent as the grave after their first admission.
