First they outsource or offshore, now they LEGALLY prevent US workers from getting positions. So, the lie about Americans being unwilling to perform jobs is just that, a lie. They don't even get a chance! Disgusting.

...you can bet that it's happening all across the U.S. economy.

I seldom agree with the unions, but it seems that their claim that foisting this amnesty bill on us is merely the latest and largest attempt to secure a large supply of low wage labor for business as well as keep Americans' wages as low as possible rings truer and truer.

and don't you think that similar processes have existed in the various "affirmative action" programs that find ways to skirt the spirit of equal opportunity in employment. It's too bad our legal system isn't really so much about justice as it is about finding a way to avoid it. Sad

Employers can fire a senior person and get an H1B employee (who is also a senior person) for a beginner salary minus 20%.

There is a hospital here that freezes the salary of RNs when they reach 20 years of service.

Matching funds for retirement? Nope.

If you are lucky enough to get a job that does give benefits then they are greatly reduced from what the same job would have given even 10 years ago.

The US Work Force as a whole - by the numbers - is one of the most efficient and productive work forces to have ever existed. US industry enjoys some of the largest profit margins in the world... because of the US work force.

Do you deny this DM?

Several years ago there was a survey among employees re: their subjective opinions of their job performance. The vast majority thought they were doing a fantastic job. I think anybody who has spent time in the work force knows better. There always has seemed to be a segment that depends on the other workers to hold them up, that are unreliable, who cause dissent among their co-workers, and miss deadlines.

But more recently, for instance, the school system here has been able in spite of the "tenure" bit, to set up standards for accountability, which are more objective than subjective.

In general it looks like few people (excepting those successfully self employed or independently wealthy) are free from being subject to losing their positions regardless of their exceptional work performance and high value to their employers.

Companies are always cutting benefits becsuae they say that they are not in a level playing field with foreign companies that don't have to pay health benefits because the government takes care of that.

US companies have reached a point of productivity and efficiency where the only place left to squeeze more profits out of the business is to streamline work force costs. They save money by cutting worker's benefits and salaries. When they can't do that anymore, they eliminate their US locations and outsource the jobs to other countries.

Now... with transportation costs going up... they want to bring production back into the US and produce goods using Guest Workers who will work at a fraction of the cost of US workers.

I think that's what the big companies want.

I remember hearing a conversation where one of my former co-workers at the supermarket was asked to work the night shift. She said she would if they agreed to pay her $11 an hour. The manager scoffed and said that he could hire 2 people for less than that!
