Can't find a fix anywhere.

by electrica625 / April 22, 2004 7:10 AM PDT

Just got a new Dell PC w/ XP loaded. Installed all software. Problem is with Pagemaker 6.0 -- very weird when I pull up the Open File Dialog Box is from Windows 3.1 (or atleast pretty old). It has the two columns -- one with file name and the other with Directory and the bottom selection for the drive. I can't work in this since I have to *think* about how it works!!! So takes forever to open documents (not to mention *place* graphics - the same "old version" dialog box comes up there too.) Photoshop, Word, Acrobat -- all other software has normal dialog box. This is ONLY in Pagemaker. The same software has been running on my last PC w/ 98 no problems. ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO FIX THIS?? I cannot find information anywhere. Thanks and I appreciate any suggestions!

While it would be nice to keep running old versions forever, eventually you have to make the choice to go back to the old OS or forward to a new version of said application.

Last hurrah is the right-click properties on the shortcut and try the compatbility settings.

Thank you for telling that you fixed it. Such feedback adds to the community knowledge that the XP compatibility settings do fix such things and in this case, Pagemaker 6.

In closing, I must share I don't keep up to the latest versions all around either, but upgrade when I'm in the need. Sometimes I jump ship to other products like Open Office from http://www.openoffice.org Yes, that's me writing "It's what I use."

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
