I can't see a good lead or clue to the issue but to get the job done we work around it.
hey all... i have a Toshiba Tecra laptop with Windows XP. I
I have about 12,000 or so mp3s stored in a series of folders within My Shared Folder. I like to right-click My Shared Folder and do a search on .mp3 so that all the songs appear in the one Search window - regular search, with the dog in the bottom left, not the more advanced Windows Search. From there, my usual order of business is to drag and drop mp3s from that Search window into my Traktor mp3 player - I'm a DJ. 90% of the time this is no problem; I can drag and drop in real time. But ever since about 5pm yesterday afternoon, when I click on an mp3 and try to drag and drop the mp3 into the player, Search freezes and it takes about 20 seconds for the mp3 to show up in the player, which is way too long when you're onstage and you need your song to load instantaneously, as usual.
Note: when I drag and drop mp3s from their actual folder locations, they load instantly. And when I do a search on a small number of mp3s, they also load fine. There's something about all 12,000 mp3s being in one Search window that is overwhelming the system. The thing is, it never overwhelmed the system until now.
I tried System Restore: no change. I tried restarting, letting it sit a while: no change.
Any ideas? I have a gig tonight, and this problem will cripple me.
Thanks in advance.
