can't download large files (over about 2mb)

I have xp, and could download anything. Until about a year ago. I guess I changed something, cause now it won't download yahoo messenger (8Mb). It stops when it gets to about 2 Mb. Then the download indicator doesn't show any more percentage downloaded, or the downloaded size just stops. I can't use download programs, cause Yahoo makes me connect directly to their site, and won't let me use them. I downloaded the original program, a couple years ago, but can't upgrade. I've noticed this same thing when I download large video or other large files, like from kazaa or winmx. I did a WinXP fix reinstall, but the problem remained. Is there a file or setting in Winxp that relates to this that I can check or change?

I'm scared to just reformat the drive, cause if the problem remains, then I'll never get ANY yahoo messenger or other large files again.

you are using Kazaa and WinMX P2P file sharing, you might want to get rid of those, and plan a battle against all the infections you have likely been downloading with those copyrighted videos and other large files.

It's against forum policy to discuss file sharing activities and problems, so all I can say is remove those programs and the uncompleted video and other file downloads you have, then goto;
http://housecall.trendmicro.com and get an online virus scan.

Then get a firewall, anti-virus and a couple of anti-spyware utilities to remove anything else that Housecall doesn't find.

Until then, I have to lock this thread.
