can't download from e-mails anymore

Feb 13, 2011 4:49AM PST

one day I clicked on the windows media icon on the bottom of the screen and it went away. Since then I have not been able to download anything from my e-mails. When you hit save, it just stops in the middle and never goes any farther. I tried re-downloading WMP, but it didn't work.THe symbol is there, but that is it. I have windows XP. Any suggestions?

Not sure what the problem is

Sorry but reading your post I am not at all clear what the problem is.

You mention some Windows Media icon at the bottom of the screen, (where?), and it went away.

Then you say you cannot download anything from your emails. What software are you using to manage your emails? What are you trying to download from your emails?

When you hit Save. Where does this option appear, and for saving what files?

Then you say you tried downloading WMP. Where from, and what does that have to do with emails?

O.K. the window media player is down at the bottom of my computer, next to the start logon and the enternet explorer icon.
When I get a e-mail from someone that has an attachment to it, and I press on the download icon in the e-mail, it goes to a little screen that says open, save,or cancel. When I hit open or save, it starts with a piece of paper going from side to side. Then it stops in the middle and never goes any further. The download never starts.
I don't know what the WMP has to do with e-mail, but when I accidentally knocked it off, my downloads stopped working. Is there some that I can download to start seeing the attachments in my e-mail like I did before.?

Use System Restore ...

to restore the computer to a date BEFORE you "accidentally knocked it off" and hopefully all will be well again.

If you are not familiar with using XP's System Restore read through this link which not only tells you how to use it but how to roll things back if the restore goes badly.
