Resolved Question

Can't delete wma desktop file (Error 0x80070057) w/ picture

Sep 12, 2013 1:18PM PDT

Hello, I have a Windows 8 64-bit Sony laptop.

I was deleting old unused folders on my Desktop when I ran into this wma file called "Untitled1" that doesn't play.

I remember one point in time it was useable and worked normally, but for some reason it won't now.

I just want this annoying file gone forever and I've been trying to search up the error code it keeps giving me (Error 0x80070057), but no such luck in solving my problem.

I also searched up "How to delete undeletable files" and tried some things out, but none of the ones that seemed closest to my problem worked out...

I'm not sure what it is I'm exactly dealing with so I decided to post here with crossed fingers that someone will tell me the solution specific to my problem.

I'm not too much of a tech so I'll need some detailed instructions and I will be writing back to your answers!

Much thanks to those who are willing to help!

Here is a picture of the error pop-up window I get when trying to permanently delete the file or move it: http://s18.postimg.org/d1d8rdxcp/problem.png

I would boot from a live CD like Ubuntu or Linux Mint

If you boot from a live CD, you should be able to delete it. Always works for me. You can download Ubuntu from http://www.ubuntu.com/download .

Good luck.

Thanks man. I read more into Ubuntu and it seems like it would work.
But there is the hassle of creating/buying livecd and learning the process of the Ubuntu features.
I'm going to try to wait for more answers if they turn up and use Ubuntu when there just isn't a simpler way.

What happened to this wma file anyway?
Does anyone really know the cause of "Error 0x80070057"-- it seems to happen to a lot of Win 7/8 users.. This is the first time I've ever experienced it before.

Ended up buying an Ubuntu CD and had assistance from a tech.
It ended up working, but I don't think I could've done it alone although it wasn't too difficult.
Thanks for the tips, wpgwpg & R. Proffitt.
Not sure exactly why this happened still hoping it won't again.

Just yesterday I got out my Puppy Linux to clear off some folder that didn't want to budge in Windows.

Got root?
