I was using just AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) v. 5.9 in my Windows XP Professional computer and had no problems connecting with it. Yesterday I installed v 6.0, so I now have both versions installed. Now when I try to connect with v. 5.9 I see the message "connecting" but I then get an error message, "Server error occurred." When I try to connect with v. 6.0, again I see the "connecting" message but then I get an error message, "AIM service can't be reached." My firewall is Zone Alarm, and AIM is set in it so that I should be asked for permission to connect to AIM but that screen never appears. This is the same way in which Zone Alarm was set up for connecting with AIM v. 5.9 before I installed v. 6.0 and I had no problems connecting with v. 5.9 before I installed v. 6.0.
What could be causing this problem and how do I correct it?
