Can't connect to the Internet!

Mar 5, 2011 8:46PM PST

I have a Dell and Windows Vista. I'm studying abroad and the wireless Internet has been working perfectly up until yesterday. I can connect on my phone, and everyone else can connect to the Internet, but I can't connect on my computer. So I think there's something wrong with my computer. I can connect to the wireless router, but not to the internet. When I diagnose the issue, it tells me to repair my wireless network adapter. When I try to repair that, it tells me there's still a problem. I know it's not the router, so I have no idea what else it could be. Please help! I have to access most of my text books online.

That a wifi connection will always be unreliable due to what it is. For example that old MAC (address) spoof is a great way for me to demo how to easily create a denial of service issue for those that feel there is no issue there.

Quick fix? Connect with ethernet to the router.

I don't have an Ethernet cord.

I might be able to get one, but I'm not sure. Are there other options?

When you are ready to think it's the router

Or router settings then you'll have more options. I noted the old MAC filter issue but since you are not ready to think its the router, we can't discuss that.

But could it be the router?

When everyone else is able to access all of the wifi signals available and I can't access any? There are two at my school and one at a nearby restaurant, and my computer won't connect to the Internet through any of them. My phone will though.

That's new.

Sorry but in your last reply you noted something that was not in your top post.

This changes my advice to "Restore the OS to when it worked." Windows Vista has this feature.

There was no restore point

Before the problem started. The earliest one was two days after I started having the problem. Otherwise, that probably would have worked. There's most likely not much else you can suggest, but thank you so much for the help. I really appreciate it and it will most likely be useful if I have problems in the future.

Any chance you are running trend micro security? Just went through an identical incident. Let me know and I share what I did to solve the problem.
