Can't connect to net with dial-up modem from trendnet

Got a TrendNet modem, the TFM-560x. It came with NO modem script although the box says it works with Mac. I have tried the scripts I have, but the closest I come to connecting is when it connects for a bit, at 4800 and then drops and gives me a "remote side not responding correctly" error message. Is there some way to get this modem to work?

I am trying it on a Mac G3 desktop beige with 9.1.

Phone line has been checked and the modem is brand new and dials, etc., but does not keep a connection.

Try other modems.

New does not mean it's a good one.
