can't connect to internet

My husband turned on his computer and can not connect to internet.Gets message no connection to the internet is available. He has checked all his settings.Checked his NIC card. That is ok.
We are on a router.Checked connection to that,it's ok.
Any ideas???

Imagine this is all we know. Said computer may be an Apple, PC with Linux, Windows or something else.

With just what you've posted, more clues are needed.

pc with windows xp.Cable connection to internet.
Do you need anymore info?

You would use System Restore to yesterday.

Try rebooting the network. Unplug modem and router, then plug back in. Modem first and them router. Let each run it's own test.
