Can't connect old Apple Display to MacBook Pro

May 9, 2011 5:55AM PDT

Want to use old Apple ADC 22" Cinema Display as exterior display to new
MacBook Pro. Cannot find an adapter that's ADC to the miniport. Nor
even ADC to DVI and then DVI to port. Any ideas?

Yes, give up. Seriously. Short of having someone custom make a cable for you, don't even bother. You have a very old monitor using a proprietary connection method that never gained any real traction, even inside the Apple world. Even if you found an ADC to DVI, then the DVI to MDP would require a second signal conversion, each one causing a loss of quality and another link in the chain that could fail on you at some point and make diagnosing the fault that much more complicated.

There comes a point when it's just not worth hanging onto stuff any longer, and this is a prime example. It's just one of those facts of life with computers. Often times you end up with stuff that's still in perfectly good working order, but to try and interface it with modern hardware would just not be worth the time, effort, and money. Put the monitor on ebay or craigslist to try and find it a good home, or just take it to the local electronics recycling place.

There are a lot of PPC enthusiast, that will be glad to buy that monitor. It would go great with my Powermac G4.
