Well I found out pluggin in a new mouse didn't work because I still had my old mouse plugged in at start up (I just tried switching them while it was booted)
it IS the mouse, one of the side buttons is broken.
This morning I woke up with a curious problem that I have never experienced before.
When I boot up my computer I can not access anything on my desktop but my weather widget. My computer appears to be isolating processes and not allowing me to move out side of them. Upon closing the widget it will activate the CPU widget, closing that doesn't get the desktop to work.
When I ctrlAltDel, I have to click the screen once to activate it and be able to select task manager. Then my desktop works normally.
However, this problem doesn't go away with that. I use Autodesk Maya a lot, and with how the program works it separates each area.
I've found the only way to jump between the different menus and windows is to use my Wacom Tablet. Being that I use this program every day for my job this is very problematic and severely impacts my work flow.
I have tried restarting (of course), trying another mouse, trying another usb port. Made sure my drivers were all up to date. I've tried unplugging my second monitor as well.
I don't know where this problem came from, I haven't installed any new drivers recently or changed anything on my computer.
