can't burn CDs

I have a new Toshiba 5372 DVD CD burner that came with Nero 6 software. I run Pentium 4 1.7 w/ 512RAM under Windows XP. Each time I try to copy a CD, the process fails at the burn stage. I have also tried the RealPlayer software and ran into same problem. Nero support says this is a driver problem but a driver removal program they sent identifies no problem drivers. Ideas please!

Which verson of XP? But you may have a bad DVD drive. John
