Not having a better suggestion it may be advisable to run System File Checker to see if any original Microsoft files are missing or corrupt.
Start|Run|Type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes and with the space after sfc.
Good luck,

XP Home, fully updated...until now.
Went to Windows Update under my user account (administrator account), and received a message that I needed to be using an administrator account, or that I needed a password (which I never established when I installed XP). So, I right-clicked the Windows Update icon and clicked "Run As...". I tried to switch to my wife's account (also an administrator account), and received a message that WUPDMGR.EXE is either missing, corrupted or not loaded.
I have done nothing to disable Windows Update. I couldn't find WUPDMGR.EXE in services.msc or msconfig.
What gives here?
TIA, Paul
